First Dinosaur Found: Megalosaurus was the first dinosaur fossil discovered; it was found in England in 1676. It was also the first dinosaur given a scientific name, by William Buckland, in 1824. Megalosaurus means "Great Lizard."
Anatomy: Megalosaurus was a theropod dinosaur about 30 to 33 feet long (9-10 m), 10 feet tall (3 m), weighing about 1 ton. It had long legs, short arms, and large, powerful jaws with sharp teeth.
