from Tim M., age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 13, 2001

(All you rex fans out there this Is going to be about insulting your precious mr t so if you wanna read further and see what horrid things i have to say about him, read further please.) My favorite used to be the veliciraptor because before i saw jurassic park I wasnt really into the dinosaur thing but when I saw those fictional killing machines jump and kill like that I became obbsessed
then I found out that raptors were smaller(but still good killers)I seeked the true super predator, and I found the utah raptor. The raptor would easily kill a tyrannosaur because he has been presumed a scavenger, now lets look at the the facts the rex is a clumsy slow moving reptile with a small brain(as said by Robert Bakker and by another paleontoligist.)and the utah raptor is a fast moving steady dinosaur genius.face it All the utah raptor would have to do is knock the legs out from under the rex and then jump on its back and claw it to death. PEACE HOMEYS

People can vote for dinosaurs because they look cool. There are many of young kids on this like ages five and six if you havent noticed yet. Just reading your articals is discusting. For goodness sakes people don't have to agree with you. Just because some people are wrong doesnt mean they are stupid. It seems as if you are saying your the only one that knows stuff about dinosaurs. Guess what you probably know less then half the stuff about dinos.

Please all you've done is insult people since you've started typing on this site.

Maybe your smarter than some people but you are not nearly as nice as some others Da master.

"Ornithomimids are not related to 'raptors' - dromaesaurids, and any other theropods, INCLUDING T REX."

For a "masta," you sure spew out quite a bit of flawed information. They ARE all related, as they all comprise branches of the Coelurosauria. All dinosaurs are related to some extent, if you go back far enough down the evolutionary family tree.

from da very tired of correcting people masta, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 13, 2001

Himton - you do not know what you are talking about. T rex is no relation of raptors. Dromaesaurids evolved along a completely different evolutioary path. As for the guy who said raptors are little rexes with arms and jumping skills, think again. I can not be bothered to explain.
from Da master, age 127, why fur, virginia, scotland; October 13, 2001

OK u clever clods, think u r so brainy about dinosaurs then? Think you are so smart, do you! Alright, i'll tell you! You know nothing about dinosaurs, nothing! You are not clever. I'll tell you about raptors. They are in the dromaesaurid family, and, quite frankly, not much to do with Troodon. They are a reasonably successful predator, so don't cuss them! Raptors may not have succeded that much, but look at other dromaesaurids! Deinonychus, for example! They where fairly late to evolve, in dinosaur history, but they terrorised the USA up until the very end of the Maastrichtian stage! It is even possible they didn't die out, as Tyrannosaurus did, or tarbosaurus, or daspletosaurus, or whatever! It is quite possible that they evolved into birds! Light bones! Warm blood! Hollow vertebra with air sacs! Maybe even feathers! So don't cuss the dromaesaurids, OK! Also, T - Rex. Don't go comparing Velociraptors and Rexes, they never met. Velos and Tarbosaurs, or Deinonychids and T - rexes, even though they lived together, probably never fought, because risk of injury or death would probably stop them. They would just avoid each other. And, by the way, voting dinosaurs because they 'look cool', or 'are neat' is stupid.

"So raptors are related to birds, and raptors have the body shape of an ostrich. "

I won't say anything, just go look at a fossil of a raptor and a skeleton of an Ostrich, you will realize they are extremely different from one another another, not just the neck. If you were really the raptor ruler, I laugh at the raptors for the raptor "ruler" dosen't even know his raptors!

A vote for Tyrannosaurus
from Miller, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 13, 2001

"Telling me that Velociraptor was no faster than a poodle is a real insult even if it is true."

If you take it as an insult, it just shows you can't face the facts. It's true, Velociraptor wasn't very fast at all. A great deal of other dinosaur designs were a lot more built for speed than the raptor design (which was hardly built for speed), among them the ostrich-mimics and the Tyrannosaurids. The raptor worst-built for speed, and the slowest of them all was Utahraptor. Utahraptor had the worst limb-bone ratios for speed of any raptor species, who already had poor limb-bone ratios. The raptors were not creeping slow, but they were hardly any champions of speed at all. Rather, you could consider their speed as below-average.

A vote for Tyrannosaurus.
from Miller, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 13, 2001

"The Raptors did not fail they evolved into birds"

Actually the first birds appeared in the Jurassic, the raptors are an offshoot of the the coelurosaurs who evolved both into the birds and the raptors and other animals. The raptors mainly died out in background extinctions when forced out by other predators like Tyrannosaurus. The last few raptors finally died out in the KT, but by that time, the raptors were just a shadow of what they had been, the only raptors left where the small ones the size of a dog, all the larger species had been long gone extinct due to Tyrannosaurid dominance. No, the raptors did not evolve into birds.

This is a vote for Tyrannosaurus.

"Tim M, t. rex is more advanced than raptors??? Raptors are fAST, SMART, deadly. And so is T.Rex. Raptors are like small T.rexes. (Except for the arms and jumping!)so t.rex is not more advanced."

Actually if you look at T.rex, compaired to the raptors, T.rex arose fairly later from the same family and was more derived than the raptors. In terms of motion efficency and sensory capabilities, T.rex was also quite far ahead. In essense, it's immediately clear T.rex was a more advanced animal. And get the idea of fast raptors out of your mind, the raptors were built for agility, not speed. And they weren't exactly that smart either, they had big brains for their sizes, but their brains were much less complex compaired to that of Troodons and Tyrannosaurus. In fact, T.rex had a bigger brain than any raptor that ever lived. T.rex is a lot more advanced. The only idea we think of raptors as deadily was mainly conjured up by JP movies, the raptors in actual fact weren't sucessful in the big-prey game at all, they arose and died out very fast, driven to extinction by animals like Tyrannosaurus. The most sucessful raptors in the end was still the small ones, who hunted small prey! . According to the fossil record, the raptors were an odd try by the coelurosaurs to hunt big prey, one that ultimately failed, only the next entry, the Tyrannosaurus, suceeded wildy beyond whatever the raptors ever did!

T.rex is more advanced! This is a vote for him.

Acording to recent evidence, dinosaurs were birds not reptiles. The birds that live today are dinosaurs. So raptors are related to birds, and raptors have the body shape of an ostrich. (except the long neck.)

Dinosaurs are reptiles is very old. Scientists now know that dinosaurs were fast warm blooded creatures.
from raptor ruler, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 11, 2001

"Tim M. T-Rex is more advanced than raptors???"
Yes, it was. T-Rex and Raptors were very similar, but T-Rex evoved long after and develloped more advanced characteristsics. That doesn't mean that raptors were not intelligent. Honkie, you're right.

from Dougie E, age 9, lansing, ohio, united states; October 11, 2001

Yes, raptors are fast, but the smaller ones might not be as fast as T-Rex. According to paleontologists, Velociraptor was no faster than a poodle. T-Rex had a 16 ft. stride, which means if it took 2 steps per second, it could achieve great speeds. There is no evidence to suggest that Utahraptor hunted in packs (when you people here the word "raptor" you automatically think it was a pack hunter) Ther is even more evidence that suggest T-Rex hunted in groups. Tyrannosaurids devellopped extremely powerful jaws, much stronger than Utahraptor or Megaraptor. T-Rex also had longer, thicker teeth than any raptor. T-Rex had better senses than raptors. Yes, T-Rex could smell better, see better, and hear better. T-Rex was a Coelurosaur, a very bird-like type of dinosaur. T-Rex' closest relatives(besides the Tyrannosaurids)were animals like Coelurus,Ornithomimus(yes T-Rex was VERY closely related to Ornithomimids)and you guessed it, Raptors! So T-Rex was like a ! huge Ornithomimid, built for speed.
from Tim M., age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 11, 2001

To really flog a dead horse I would like to add something to Tom's argument that raptors were fast because they were closely related to the ostrich mimics:

Yeah right, an OSTRICH is closely related to birds, so it must be able to fly.

Functional morphlogy, functional morphlogy...

A vote for Tyrannosaurus.
from Honkie Tong, age 17, ?, ?, ?; October 11, 2001

Let me process your misinformation part by part:

"Its easy to see that the raptors are fast. They have a long stiff tail which is perfect for helping it make tight turns at high speed."

Agility hardly refers to speed, the tail would have been equally effective in agility at lower speeds. This was an agility adaptation, not a speed adaptation. It also needs to be noted that Tyrannosaurus shows this adaptation.

"The raptors are just as closely related to dinosaurs like ornithomimus as T Rex is."

That's where you messed up again. The Tyrannosaurids are the ones that are closer related. As a matter of fact, they are suspected to be direct decendents of dinosaurs such as, as you said Ornithomimus. The raptors were a great deal less advanced and a lot more distant. But speed is based on functional morphlogy, not who you are related with.

"The Raptors are among the most closly related dinosaurs to the birds which means they are very agile."

Once again, being closely related to birds does not mean they were agile. It's functional morphlogy that plays a part. I could say you could swing on trees and play tarzan because you are most closely related to chimp chimp the chimp at the zoo. No, it's functional morphlogy, functional morphlogy.

"The raptors are omong the most intelligent and advanced dinosaurs."

They only have a higher EQ, if you want to know. But neurology-wise their brains were quite primitive. Besides, Tyrannosaurus is also among the most intelligent and was even more advanced than the raptors, if you are looking at how derived as dinosaurs they are.

"They are closely related to Troodon which is the most intelligent dinosaur and Troodon is closely related to the ostrich dinosaurs so the Raptors are probably more related to the ostrich dinosaurs than T Rex."

T.rex is also closely related to Troodon, once again, your long and argument utterly fails to prove anything but show your entire incompetence in the matter. Tyrannosaurus still remains closer related to the ostrich dinosaurs. And once again, who cares if they're related? It's functional morphlogy, functional morphlogy.

"And the Raptors legs are gracile. Almost anywhere there is info on raptors its says they are fast, gracile, dangerous effecient hunters."

Sadly, you don't even seem to understand the term "gracile". Look anywhere on the net and you will see that the raptor's limbs are desribed as VERY ROBUST, not GRACILE. I'm afraid you can't just cheat your way our by posting misinformation. Anf the idea that they were efficent hunters is what? It's an opinion. Not to mention an old one. Most paleontologists now regard raptors as only moderately sucessful, they never reached the anywhere near level of dominance the Tyrannosaurids achieved almost immediately after they appeared. As a matter of fact, going by species diversity and distribution via time frame, the Tyrannosaurids are clearly much much superior to the raptors in terms of bing sucessful animals.

Normally I don't write here, unless people post inaccucrate and wrong information. You can contuine to live in your dreams, but it's my duty to keep the public well-informed and see your utter incompetence in knowning whatever you are putting up here, something you have shown great competence in doing.

This is a vote for T.rex.

Velociraptor is a of course bestest dino!! and here's a story about a really dumb T-rex!!

This spastic t-rex was the king of all dino's. All the dinos...loved da' hate him!!!! smart and tricky velociraptor told him the floods were coming and that if he stood on the tallest hill there, when there was a storm he would be powerful!! guess what that brainless dino did... He did it. He stood on the hill ... and got an electric shock!!!! Tyranosaures is plain dumb... and so are those mad people out there your'e like your fav' dino . HA! i think you batch o' people better go to the mentle hospital!!! you spastic tREX LOVERS!!!!!!! aLL THE RAPTORS ROCK!!!!!

Its easy to see that the raptors are fast. They have a long stiff tail which is perfect for helping it make tight turns at high speed. The raptors are just as closely related to dinosaurs like ornithomimus as T Rex is. The Raptors are among the most closly related dinosaurs to the birds which means they are very agile. The raptors are omong the most intelligent and advanced dinosaurs. They are closely related to Troodon which is the most intelligent dinosaur and Troodon is closely related to the ostrich dinosaurs so the Raptors are probably more related to the ostrich dinosaurs than T Rex. And the Raptors legs are gracile. Almost anywhere there is info on raptors its says they are fast, gracile, dangerous effecient hunters.

"by looking at T-Rex brain casts you can tell its site was based on movement..." THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! First of all, there is no such thing as vision being based on movement, but I don't want to repeat the "how vision works" paragraph again. I did that already. T-Rex had very could vision, ecxellent olfactory bulbs, and very good hearing. Its senses exceed that of the raptors! T-Rex was more advanced than your raptors, and it was built for speed, OH, and agree with the comments Leonard said.

I do not think that T-rex is faster than a utahraptor. T-rex may have been a runner but not faster than a dinosaur so much smaller then him with higher agility. Even if rex was fast he could probably only run for a short time. If one rex could run 40 miles per hour than it could probably only run for about 5 to 20 minutes, so if it was chasing an average fast dinosaur it would be pooped by the time it caught it.

"T-Rex scavenges and hunts, tim M. what fo you mean?"

It's simple. An animal can scavenge and hunt all the time. T-Rex probably hunted its food, but if it came across a carcass, it would eat that too. Modern day lions do the same thing.

from J. Mukes, age 18, kettering, Ohio, *U.S.A*; October 10, 2001

"and I'm not saying T rex isnt fast but why is t rex ment to be so fast?"

Because he was built to be. T.rex is the speediest large dinosaur design around. In fact, he is expected to be faster then Utahraptor. Simply take a look at this article, where theropod expert Tom Holtz responds to a person on the issue of T.rex gracility (adaptations for speed):

GRACILITY AND SPEED OF T. rex
by Thomas R. Holtz, Jr.

>cheetahs, and T rexs, do you consider lions, being a very robust
>animal, like cheetahs, and not like T rex, also a very robust animal.
>T rexs certainly aren't gracile in any way. Cheetahs are very

Sorry, Betty, but T. rex is very gracile. In terms of tibia/femur and metatarsus/femur ratio, Tyrannosaurus is MORE gracile than Deinonychus!! It is also more gracile than any other 5 tonne critter, Mesozoic or Cenozoic!

Tyrannosaurus does not LOOK very gracile, for two reasons: 1) at such a large size, gracile limb proportions look bulky. However, compare the hindlimb of Tyrannosaurus with an elephant, a rhino, a Triceratops, even an Edmontosaurus. You will see that the T. rex legs are more slender and have relatively longer tibiae and metatarsi. 2) The most famous T. rex mount in the world, AMNH 5027, has the wrong legs!! Since this specimen (a gracile morph) lacked hindlimbs, Osborn et al. added casts of the legs of the type (now at the Carnegie). The type is the robust morph, and a larger individual!

Furthermore, the feet of the type (and thus the AMNH mount, and thus many many copies, drawings, models, etc., etc.) were and remain(!) incorrectly restored. Not realizing that tyrannosaurids had ornithomimid-like feet, Osborn et al. reconstructed the feet of T. rex after Allosaurus, giving the mount a much broader foot than it should have.

>gracile. They have flexible spines so that in the full gallop their
>spines ripple like a trampoline. I don't picture T rex's spine doing
>anything so undignified during a run. I can see (perhaps) something
>smaller and more elegant of form like VelocIraptor or Deinonychus
>developing along the lines of a speedster like the cheetah, but not
>ol' brick T rex. He's built like a truck, not a Ferrari. Perhaps
>even Allosaurus fragilus might be considered to be a speedier design,
>but T rex?

Tyrannosaurus limb proportions are more gracile than Allosaurus fragilis. The smaller tyrannosaurids were even more gracile, and the smallest had the same limb proportions to the largest ornithomimids: measurement for measurement, the legs of Alectrosaurus and Gallimimus are identical!

Dromaeosaurids have about the LEAST gracile limb proportions of any nonavian theropod (only therizinosauroids had worse!). Crichton aside, dromaeosaurids were probably NOT very fast runners relative to tyrannosaurids, ornithomimids, etc. Instead, they were probably cat-like ambush predators, relying on short bursts of high speed, quick turns, and an all-out attack with all four legs and the mouth, too!

>I think your point about tendons is valid, but I believe T rex's
>adaptations were more for being the biggest kid on the block, not the
>fastest.

If we can use functional morphology as a guide, tyrannosaurids were faster than any other group of large theropod (allosauroid, megalosauroid, neoceratosaur). This may not mean that they were fast as racehorses, but they were adapted to (for a large animal) high speed.

>(and what with all the fused tendons along most therapods' tails, you
>don't see the completely supple spine like in a cheetah, anyways.
>Therapods spines seem to have been reinforced to prevent exactly that
>kind of movement.)

Actually, cheetah tails are held about as rigid as they can be, except at the base. Cheetah's and other big cats use their tails as dynamic stabilizers, to turn on a dime at high speed. This is exactly the condition we find in the Dromaeosauridae.

T.rex is fast.

"also if you look at a cast of T-Rex's brain you can tell that it's site was based mostly on motion but his O-factoryyou can tell that it could smell a corpse up to 25 miles away."

Oh no! In fact when paleontologists look at Tyrannosaurus brain casts, the normally ignore the smell lobe, which was immense. The remainding Tyrannosaurus brain still had extremely large visual lobes, much larger then that of any raptor. Tyrannosaurus' vision, hearing and smell was superior to that of any raptor.

"I also think that T-Rex was a scavenger because unlike the raptors like dienonychus wich had a short femur and a long tibea, and the T-Rex had a 50" femur and a 48" tibea wich is the very oposite of a fast runner, "

Actually, if you ask most paleontologists (not Horner! He knows nuts on Tyrannosaurus, whose imfom you seem to be qouting) The raptors (expecially Utahraptor) all have extremely long femur and very short tibea! Measurement for measurement, Tyrannosaurus limbs are also identical to that of the ostrich mimics! It would also do you good to get the notion of the Tyrannosaurids as being any sort of slow out of your mind right now as they is now in fact, considered the FASTEST large dinosaur design around. Tyrannosaurus was certainly better-adapted for speed than any raptor. Your information is gravely wrong. The ratio you stated for Tyrannosaurus limbs seems pretty wack too, Tyrannosaurus had short femurs, for a dinosaur its size. You must be getting your info from Horner, who studied the famous Tyrannosaurus specimen which had it's legs constructed from many specimens, leading to the wacked-up ratios. Latest finds of more complete T.rex indicate that they had short femurs, and long tibulae. In fact, the Tyrannosaurids had always been more gracile then the raptors!

Alejandro, so Megaraptor is the most powerful dinosaur,
T-Rex was bigger by about 10 ft., had much more powerful jaws, had keener senses, was faster, yes faster,(when people hear the word "raptor" they automatically presume it was fast.)because Megaraptor was NOT built for speed. It was too heavy for the way it was built. T-Rex was built to move with speed and agility.(No matter which way he moved.)Megaraptor couldn't jump up onto other dionsaurs backs, it was too heavy, (it probably could have jumped a bit though)
T-Rex had larger, thicker teeth for crushing, and megarator had thin teeth for slicing. So, you see, Megaraptor was a powerful dinosaur, but not the most powerful.

"No this is not true..." I don't know why you think that, but I presume you have a good reason. According to the research I've done on this "new carnosaur" it seems to have been found in a group of six. Here's something I copied off the site that I first found out about this new meat eater on. "In 1997, the team led by Coria and Canadian paleontologist Phillip Currie discovered what turned out to be at least six of the largest predatory dinosaur ever found. At first, they thought they had found another Giganotosaurus site, but it was something much different. The largest of them were 45 ft. long, had razor sharp teeth, and could swallow a human whole."
Yes, according to every site I could find tis new carnivorous dinosaur, they say it was found in a group of six. And I'm sure I'm talking about the right Carnosaur, not another dinosaur. The one I'm talking abut is the Patagonian Theropod, that ws 45 ft. long, had razo sharp teeth, and was related to Giganotosaurus.

Utahraptor is my fav. Why? Well it was intelligant, it could work as a pack instead of being independant. Also unlike some meat eaters (we think..well the scientists do i think lol) that all raptors planned their attacks. I dunno maybe I only got that from the Jurassic Park movies but I should research that anywayz. Ok well Utahraptors are cool..

As much as I'm a T-Rex fan, I can't sit here and let people say raptors are pathetic. Yes, they seem weak sometimes compared to highly advanced, powerful theropods like T-Rex. They weren't stupid, they were very intelligent for dinosaurs, but T-Rex might have been just as smart. Anyway, the reason why those raptors didn't back off when the Tentosaurus faught back is because they needed food. They were able to kill the Tentosaurus though. To make along story short, raptors weren't pathetic, but they were no match for T-Rex and other advanced theropods

"I dont really like t rex but t rex fans are not ignorant. the raptors like utahraptor probably died out because the climate was changing or something and tyrannosaurids probably were more adapted to the new climate. Not just because tyrannosaurids took all the raptors food. "

The Tyrannosaurids were better adapted and more efficent at taking down large prey, which Utahraptor might have hunted, than Utahraptor itself. Allowing the Tyrannosaurids to obtain more meals, have more offspring and steal more kills from the Utahraptors (hey, they were bigger after all), and as before. The lost of dominance over prey items to the Tyrannosaurids led to the decline of the species. It's almost blatantly apparent the Tyrannosaurids had something to do with the decline of the raptors, for the only ones that survived the apperance of the Tyrannosaurids were those who did not compete with them for food in the first place!

Another vote for T.rex here.
from Honkie Tong, age 17, ?, ?, ?; October 3, 2001

"Probably allosaurs were more succsesful in south america then in north america and tyrannosarids weren't very succsesful in s america"

Actually, unlike your biased point and intelligence-limited point of view (which is irrevelant as it ignores most scientific fact and posts an opinion instead), the Tyrannosaurids are considered by most paleontologists to be the most wildy sucessful genus of dinosaurian predator ever, they rapidly rose to dominance and their genus was just about the only predatory one in their habitat, unlike the Allosaurids, who had to compete with other genus throughout, the Tyrannosaurids sucessfully kicked out all the competition (including the Allosaurids) to be the only ones in the big killing niche in the whole of Laurasia. No other predatory genus has ever done that. So I'm afraid you are wrong. Sadly (or happily in your case) the massacare of Allosaurids in the north by the Tyrannosaurids was halted south by a pesky sea opening up, allowing even more pesky animals like intelligence-limited Giganotosaurus south to evolve and sadly allowing more intelligence-limited people to jump onto it's badwagon 80 million years later. It appears idocity runs in the entire company in Giganotosaurus' case, from Giganotosaurus and the super-allosaurids itself to the fans. Well, whadayaexpect? Only people with limited intelligence think Giganotosaurus was any sort of a match for Tyrannosaurus.

"There a fossil records showing that t rex's got killed by anklyosaurus. so that must mean that because those few t rex's didn't back off from the anklyosaurus it makes t rex stupid."

That is like, so untrue? There has been no evidence of a T.rex ever killed by an ankylosaurus (where the heck did the ankylosaurus come from in the raptor story anyway?) They do suspect one T.rex fossil shows signs from sustaining a leg fracture from a ankylosaurid blow, but that healed over and the animal recovered. But in all the 39 specimens of T.rex recovered, complete or not, none shows any evidence of a fatal brush in with an ankylosaurid. But we do know of at least one individual who got killed by inter-species fighting. But, still no ankylosaurid kill. I'm sorry if you have to make things up to justify your point, but then again, nobody ever said you were smart :)

Though I would agree, losing FOUR raptors in a battle speaks volumes about their combat ability...or the lack of it.

Another one for T.rex.
from Honkie Tong, age 17, ?, ?, ?; October 3, 2001

"In my post I said that t-rex was bigger, and the new dino was fiercer"

Sadly there is no way to prove that, rather we don't go by fierceness (a south american jungle ant is much, much fiercer then any human around, but then again, we could simply step on it). Besides, arguing your dinosaur is superior because it's fiercer is incredibly infantile and lame, and a appaling show of the typical mentality of the anti-tyrannosaurid psyce (sadly, they seem to share a similar lack of intelligence). Fiercness is impossible to prove with any certainly, rather, the smart go for the capability of the animal, as determined by it's morphlogy. Going by Tyrannosaurid morphlogy, we can easily determine it was far, far more capable when it came to killing than the new carnivore. And would be far, far more capable of killing it then it by the new carnivore. I'm sorry, but fiercness harly cut it when you don't have the skills. The new (or rather old, for it's old news by now) carnivore can act as fierce as he wants but that isn't going to help him after he realizes he lacks the competence to strike effectively at Tyrannosaurus. Sorry, it's the most competent that win the fight, not the fiercest one. The new carnivore can make one heck of a racket with all of his fierceness, but that will soon change to wimpers of pain as he bleeds out rather rapidly.

Besides, to really flog a dead horse, Tyrannosaurus was not only more competent, but we have go reason to believe he was fiercer.

It's hard to see why I won't vote for T.rex, so this is one.
from Honkie Tong, age 17, ?, ?, ?; October 3, 2001

"Ok your right that they cant prove that the new dino was fiercer just from looking at it."

You are making some progress in the intelligence department.

" but the food it preyed on can show how fierce it is."

Ahh...ahhh, that's where you're going wrong.

"There was only a couple of fossils around the new dino that it preyed on. But if Giganotasaurus killed large sauropods, Then the new dinos can prey on bigger ones."

What's so hard about hunting sauropods? Even flimsly allosaurus could do it. Sauropods are slow, stupid, cannot run away and the only dangerous thing about it was to avoid getting stepped on or swiped by a tail. And the prey that Giganotosaurus hunted wasn't exactly massive on the sauropod scale either. In contrast, hunting an animal like Triceratops is far more dangerous, requires a great deal of skill and timing. And how will killing sauropods help these animals in a match against Tyrannosaurus anyway? Tyrannosaurus wasn't slow, stupid or dumb like your sauropod, he dosen't fit the optimal target profile of those super-allosaurids. On the other claw, Tyrannosaurus hunted, faster, smarter and more dangerous prey, or which target profile fits better with the new allosaurids. In short, he was better at killing animals with preformance envelopes Giganotosaurus or that new carnosaur, while the new carnosaurs were pretty lously at killing anything with Tyrannosaurus-like preformance. It's like pitting a bomber against a fighter jet. Sure, the bomber is great at taking out buildings and large stuff, but it's poor against the fighter jet, which is designed to take down stuff like the bomber. And this is what we're getting here, a case of a fighter jet (Tyrannosaurus) vs. a bomber (new carnosaur)

"And since they hunted in packs they had to have teamwork like raptors so they can be almost as smart as t-rex if not smarter."

Though there is no evidence to suggest this, I would support the idea of the new carnosaur hunting in packs. However, they would be nowhere near as smart as a T.rex! Let alone superceed it. What do you get when you put up a team of morons? Do you get the intelligence of Sir Issac Newton? I'm afriad not, putting a large group of idiots together produces just that, a group of idiots, their intelligence isn't going to exceed that of another more intelligent animal, certainly not one like Tyrannosaurus who was TWICE as smart as them (not counting the smell lobe, which was immense). And hey, to kill this argument deader, what da ya know? Tyrannosaurus rex hunted in packs too! So what we get are a bunch of oversized, outdated Allosaurids vs. a bunch of high-speed, high-agility, super-advanced, high-powered, jaw-smashing, state-of-the-art overgrown Coelurosaurs. I think I'll pick the new carnosaur...I think not.

Besides, the only reason the new carnosaur managed to even exist was because of the timely opening of a sea seperating north and south america then. When the Tyrannosaurids rose into power, they virtually kicked the butts of the Allosaurids up north out of a job (in fact, the Tyrannosaurids did that to almost every competing predator). The new carnosaur was a relic preserved from the past in dinosaurian history, and was only allow to survive simply because of the emergence of a sea. Lucky, not good.

All the more reason to vote T.rex here.
from Honkie Tong, age 17, ?, ?, ?; October 3, 2001

"Honkie Tong what evidence do you have that shows that the tyrannosauruids wiped out the big raptors? tyrannosaurids didn't live in the early cretaceous when utahraptor and deinonychus lived.Anyway if there where early tyrannosaurids when utahraptor lived a pack of 6 m long utahraptors could easily kill an early tyrannosaurid. "

Apparently not, for the marked rised of Tyrannosaurid species in the cretacious was corresponded by a sudden drop in raptor diversity, the raptors simply went out of a job in the big-prey arena the moment the Tyrannosaurids rose. Of course, I would like to state we actually have MORE fossil evidence of Tyrannosaurids (not just one species, but several, including T.rex) hunting in "packs" then we do of the animals you so crassly call the "raptors" (of which people immediately assumes is a pack-hunter). There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Utahraptor would have hunted in a pack, not any more likely than the earilest Tyrannosaurids it would have faced. But face it, the better predator won, and the raptors in competition with the Tyrannosaurids had to go.

BUT there isn't any evidence to suggest animals as large as Utahraptor really hunted in packs. They might have, but then again, in many cases they wouldn't have to because of there size. For example, a single Utahraptor could bring down a Mymorpelta easily, but it might have needed some help taking down an Astrodon. "OK I've look up even more. Rex did have a little stronger skull when it came to biteing but thats because the new meateater disected its prey, so they prey almost always died."

Really? I thought being crushed kills you faster then being snipped up.

" But the new dino is fiercer and more agressive than rex."

There is no fossil evidence to support this, I wonder where are you getting this from. Is fiercness preserved in bones? Not unless you're talking trace fossils, none of which from this animal have been found.

"A paleontoligist said that he would rather meet up with t-rex than be anywhere around this new dinosaur because it was so feirce."

I wonder if he's saying this for media effect? And you are basing your entire case on a comment? And a vauge and passing one at that? Bad news!

" It also had sharper teeth that rex. It had teeth that was like an evil butcher knife. Its head was so large that it could swallow a human whole."

Gee, I would supposed these animals should have sharper teeth, after all they could not bite as hard as T.rex and would have needed sharper teeth in that sense, Being able to swallow a human whole is hardly a big feat worth mentioning.

"The paleontoligists who discovered it are going to name it a South American Indian name."

Great news? What bearing does it have here?

" So who cares if T-rex is smarter or faster and even sometimes a little bit larger. The new dino could kill it."

I think the new dino would care, facing up against a faster and smarter and harder-hitting foe. And as we proved, there is nothing to suggest that this dino was meaner, if anything, the morphlogy of Tyrannosaurus seem to suggest he was built to be meaner.

This a vote for Tyrannosaurus.
from Honkie Tong, age 17, ?, ?, ?; October 2, 2001

Ahh the new meat eating dinosaur voters are resurfacing, Here's what I have to say.
AHEM!! I CARE IF T-REX WAS SMARTER, FASTER, AND STRONGER THAN THE NEW MEAT EATER! First of all, you can NOT tell how agressive a dinosaur was by looking at fossils. Or how fiece it was.(duh!)T-Rex had more jaw power, and bigger, thicker teeth than the new meat eater. If the new meat eater and a T-Rex bit each others necks at the same time, the new meat eater would die first. BECAUSE T-Rex had more powerful jaws and more powerful teeth.(The sharpness of the teeth doesn't matter in this case) So you can't say the new meat eater is better because its fiecer, because you just can't figure that out from fossils.T-rex was more intelligent, and faster than this new carnivore. And that guy who said he'd rather meet up with a T-Rex than with the new meat eater, well, that's just his opinion.
And Paca, I'd like to know more about this "evidence" of T-Rex being a scavenger, because so far I think its a bunch of...

"Here's what I say about raptors
they lasted longer than Tyrannosaurs
They DID NOT become exctinct when T-Rex arrived
The raptors were the second smartest type of dinosaur..."
AAAAAAAAAAAAAND YOUR POINT IS...
T-Rex!

from Tim M., age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 1, 2001

My favorite dinosaur is a T-rex. It is a meat-eater and I like it.
from Tyler M., age 6, OKC, OK, United States of America; October 1, 2001

While I was reading an artical about the new dinosaur it said that a new t-rex skelaton was found and from it Scientists can prove it was a scavenger.

New meat eater
from Paca, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 1, 2001

OK I've look up even more. Rex did have a little stronger skull when it came to biteing but thats because the new meateater disected its prey, so they prey almost always died. But the new dino is fiercer and more agressive than rex. A paleontoligist said that he would rather meet up with t-rex than be anywhere around this new dinosaur because it was so feirce. It also had sharper teeth that rex. It had teeth that was like an evil butcher knife. Its head was so large that it could swallow a human whole. The paleontoligists who discovered it are going to name it a South American Indian name. So who cares if T-rex is smarter or faster and even sometimes a little bit larger. The new dino could kill it.
from Brock H, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 1, 2001

It depends on what kind of raptors it was that got killed. and there could have been more Tens around that made hunting harder.
from gianna, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 1, 2001

I actually have no idea. I was just playing. I am sure it won't be called that.
from gianna, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 1, 2001

I've been looking for more info about the new meat eater for the past couple of days. I didn't find anything that said t-rex was stronger that the new meat eater. All I found was that compared it to t-rex was its size, and that it was fiercer than rex. But I'll keep looking just incase I missed it.

New Carnivore

So raptors lost four of their own in one battle. Those perticular raptors may have been pathetic, but not all of them are. The raptors might have fought themselves over who got the food first. There is so many other possibilties how the raptors died.
from raptor ruler, age ?, ?, ?, ?; October 1, 2001

Spinosaurus is actually 50 feet long. I saw it on a website that compares t-rex and spinosaurus.

My favorite dinosaur is T-Rex. Because he was a fierce meat-eater. That could tear off at least 500 pounds of meat. And they are still very popular
